Who I am
Hi, I’m Amirali Delavari, a materials engineer who is curious about how things are made and how we can make them better. I’m 26, and over time I’ve realized engineering isn’t just about tools or theories; it’s more about asking the right questions and building things that really matter.
I studied Materials Engineering for both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. During my MSc. at Politecnico di Torino, I focused on polymers, composites and 3D-printed structures. Later, at EPFL in Lausanne, I worked on reinforcing 3D printed parts for load-bearing applications. a hands-on, challenging, and rewarding experience which helped me to learn a lot.
I’ve worked with metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites; but what I enjoy most is the process behind them: testing, improving, learning. Sometimes failed experiments taught me more than successful ones.
Recently, additive manufacturing became the main focus for me. not only for the innovation, but also because it brings together creativity, performance, and sustainability. These values matter to me.
During my time in Turin, I also joined the Squadra Corse Driverless team. a student motorsport group building autonomous race cars. In the Materials unit, we focused on selecting right materials for the chassis, side pods and brackets. It was fast, practical, and a great place to grow.
I also enjoy attending events which it is possible to see new innovations and meet professionals in your field. For instance, I attended Formnext 2024 and AM Summit Copenhagen, connecting with people who care about engineering, design, and impact. These moments have shaped the way I see my professional role and I am looking forward to connecting more professionals in my field.
Outside of work, I’ve taught chess for over 7 years. It’s not my main job; it’s a hobby which helped me become more patient and better at working with people. Chess is a fantastic strategic game to grow your personality, and I am thankful from my dad for putting me in the chess class at the age of 6!
I enjoy hiking, traveling, and reading. I believe in hiking you have a good time to spend in the nature; in travelling you get to know different people and cultures and in reading, you understand how the writer of the book thinks. All of them teach you something and that is valuable for me.
Whether in research or industry, I feel most alive when I’m learning, if that’s learning together with a team, it’s even better!
Thanks for reading my short bio! if you’re working on something interesting, or just curious about the same things, feel free to say hi. I’m always open to good conversations.
